Storm front

 The days lately have been really strange weather wise.  They start off lovely, with beautiful blue skies and crisp temperature.  Then right about sunset the storm rolls in.  This storm yesterday gave us 27mm and the causeway went well over.  By today it was back to just to wetting the concrete. 

There was a beautiful edge to the storm.  It was breath taking and these phones don't do it justice, as they were taken on my iphone from out the window of the car.  It's just awe inspiring, the beauty of the storm, but at the heart you know that there is some real power behind it.

Well today it was a replica of yesterday.  Right as I am driving home at sunset.  So much beauty. 

In a different thought mode.  Last night when I went to get into bed.  Levi snuggled up and patted my back a few times and then in this very sweet happy voice said;

"There you are!"

Man that is one sweet little thing.



Storm Front Coming

 This is the storm this afternoon.  It is a raw picture, straight out of the camera.  Yes, it really was that green.  I think there is some reason to believe that whoever La Nina is, she is currently pissed off at Queensland and Brisbane in particular.  We lost power in Samford for about 4 hours.  It meant that we had dinner in the dark and Levi had his bath in the dark.  Just as it was bed time, the lights came back on.  It was actually really fun, esp for Levi. 

 We had dinner upstairs where there is gas.  Downstairs is all electric.  By the time I got home from work/the doctor we had already had about an inch of rain in that first half hour.  Wind was whipping stuff everywhere and it was raining so hard, there was a layer of water on the road making hydroplaning likely.  I hope everyone got home safely, I suspect that it could have gotten ugly out there.  I got a few photos as I sat at a light, waiting for that red light in the picture to turn green.

Also I went to the doctor today to get my thumb checked out.  It isn't getting better at the rate that I have expected it to.  The doctor actually thinks that I broke it at the time and that perhaps as it is the thumb on my dominant hand, I should have done something a little sooner.  Actually I was just hoping it would get better on it's own.  The joint is now much bigger on the right than the left and it feels like bone has built up.  I will get the X-Ray sometime tomorrow and go from there.  Turns out I am anemic as well.  All those tests done last year turns out I'm iron deficient and anemic.  Maybe I can start feeling better, soon.

Weather bomb

Today Brisbane got hit by what they are calling a 'Weather Bomb'.  It feels like that!  We got 124 mm just between 9pm last night and 6am.  In the two hours after that we got another 15mm.  It has rained incredibly hard all day with a few little moments of quieter rain.  The river rose and then fell slightly, but the rain has picked up again, so I doubt that tomorrow will be much better.  I worked from home.  I can access our server from our house and frankly at the moment, it gives me a faster connection and more peace and quiet.  Not that I am not the instigator of most of the rumpus at work.

Levi and I made Play Doh and he played beside me at a table much of the day with a rolling pin and knife and cookie cutters.  He had the TV on and very little to do.  I think that it won't hurt him to have a few quiet days.  The school would have been very quiet.  Many houses in Samford get cut off on these days.  Our causeway generally goes first, but this rain was cutting off roads that rarely get cut.  My work at Strathpine was also flooded out, so there was no stress about not getting to work. 

Jack was due to fly out today.  He got very stressed and tried all sorts of different options to get out.  I had worked out about 8.30am that there wasn't a chance on earth that any of us were going out safely.  Eventually after trying several different ideas, including chartering a helicopter to get him out, he relaxed and is now back upstairs waiting out the storm.
