Bed Jinx

Levi was exhausted tonight.  I am exhausted too!  At least it made bedtime really easy tonight.  He was asleep by his 7pm bedtime and was grateful to get there.  Last night after the going to bed mess, when he was hungry and cranky and unable to sleep, he woke at midnight and was 'too awake to go to sleep'.  He got up and mucked around until about 2am until finally I roused on him and he went to sleep.  I have no idea what is happening with his sleep but I am hoping it is a fleeting thing and will just go away all by itself.  I actually think he is just growing and readjusting to that in his sleep.  I will keep telling myself that anyway.

This morning Levi was still sleeping when I left.  He was still sleeping until Jo came down and woke him at 8.20am.  He ended up being slightly late for school, which he hates.  He was tired when I picked him up from school and we ended up ditching soccer training this afternoon as well.  I was dragging all day but really was so slow, that it took me until I picked Levi up to remember why I was so completely trashed.  Yep very very tired. 

Because Levi wasn't doing soccer, we were able to get a start on his homework.  I go through times of being happy about his progress and nervous but I think generally it is because I have no idea what is expected of him at this age.  I have no idea of where he is in the classroom academically and if I need to push him.  I know about Math, that is easy.  He is really good at Math and because of that is really happy to do it.  Because of that fact alone, we did the Math part of his homework this afternoon.  He worked on his Mathletics for a couple of hours.  Most of the time he even did his work!  The rest of the time he spent changing his avatar.  His computer has some sort of glitch, so he works on mine and it is really cute watching him use a full size laptop and mouse.  It kept him busy at least until I got another massive dinner ready for him.

I think fairly soon I am going to crawl into bed as well. 

D-U- Eye

I have some quick tips for today

Tip 1:  If you are really tired when you get up in the morning, don't just put eye drops in before checking the labels!

Today I had bleary eyes when I got up, likely because I was tired rather than any other reason.  I decided to put some eye drops in.  I reached for the bottle and squirted it in my eye.  I quickly realized that it wasn't in fact eye drops.  The searing pain and sudden deluge of tearing woke me up in a hurry.  It was ear drops not eye drops that I had put in my eye.  99.8% alcohol.  I can assure you it is not an experiment that I wish to repeat in a hurry.  I washed it out over and over and fairly quickly the pain went away.  My eye has been 'off' all day though and has been blurry.  I am thinking there is no long term detriment that I have to worry about.  After checking the Internet it seems I am not the first to try neat alcohol in the eye.  I looked up Children's Hospital Help lines and they had lots of good information about what not to put in your eye!

Tip 2:  Just because yesterday was good, it has no bearing on today!

Levi fought homework tooth and nail today.  There was nothing different from any other day today, but he was just not really in the mood.  We were even doing maths and he was just not there in mind or body today.  Eventually it was done but even his writing was more primitive than yesterday.  I am never going to understand this kid.

Tip 3:  No matter what happens in a day, it is not a bad day when we can welcome another little baby

Pam had her baby this afternoon and I can't, can't wait to meet her!

Homework

Nights are getting better.  Levi is sleeping faster and by himself.  He is still tired and fragile but really he is just getting used to school.  Tonight was no exception.  He had homework from school.  He had to write out some spelling words and had to do a math worksheet and read his home reader.  He was not happy!  His comment;

"I would prefer to do an hour of Mathletics than do this homework!"

I thought that I would bust with laughter but if you do that then he would be very cranky!  I did explain to him that perhaps that was why he had to do the homework, because it was hard.  It was not an easy sell.  He grumped and cried about his homework.  He got cranky and broke his pencil.  When all of that failed to get a rise from me, he did his homework.  It took us a long time, much, much longer than it should have.  Hopefully he will 'break' earlier tomorrow and faster again the next day.  I have to go to Townsville on Outreach next week and I want him to be happy with the whole routine when he has to go upstairs for a few nights! 

He is a sweet thing but does get a little high strung with changes.  He will get into a routine with his work and it won't be a problem.  It just might take me a little while to get him there!
